Take a look at this:http://www.106rallyeforum.com/forum2008/showthread.php?t=44967

Considering the site it's posted on I can only assume it's bitter jealousy!

Hahahahahaha, they drive 106s! I almost fell off my seat.

That's the first time I've ever seen anyone badmouth an FTO. Funny stuff. Post them the Auto Trader Awards link. ;)

Or do nothing and carry on laughing.

Anyone else see the irony of 106 Rallyee drivers slagging FTO's because all the models except the "top models" aren't quick.
The 106 range also included 1.0 petrol and 1.5 non turbo diesels. they wouldn't associate their car with those though..

They should remember the FTO has 200BHP, (ok 197) that's 100BHP per litre or about the same as a Ferrari

Hehe, looks like you have them changing their tune somewhat.

I love all the "hairdresser image" comments. Even if true, as if that would be worse than the "poor chav that can't afford a Civic" image they seem to have bagged themselves.

Might also be worth showing them the results of the recent site battle between FTO Ireland and French Cars - most of which were heavily stripped 106GTIs and 306 GTI 's.

FTO Club
14.951 (ikeane)
15.515 (miss enzo)
14.832 (muad)
14.645 (Dave)
14.169 (MfFTO)

74.112 / 5 = 14.882 average

French Cars ireland
14.912
15.231
15.195
15.966
16.164

77.498 / 5 = 15.500 average

May also be worth asking them how the 106 did in the recent Used Sports cars awards? :P

Isn't the 350z French too? (well, some of the engine!)

No - the engine was developed by Nissan. Renault (who have a share in Nissan) have borrowed the technology and used a version of the Nissan 3.5l engine in their Vel Satis (albeit a detuned version). I have noticed quite a few gombeens on the motor forums recently putting this arguement forward as to why they don't like the Zed. Not that I can particularly see why a Renault performance engine would be a weak point - haven't these guys won a couple of F1 World Championships?

From Wikipedia -
"The VQ35DE is built in Iwaki, Japan and Decherd, TN. It was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2002 through 2007. It features forged steel connecting rods, a microfinished one-piece cast camshaft, and Nissan's nylon intake manifold technology. It has low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons and the intake system is a high-flow tuned induction system."

Are the blocks of the Vel Satis and Zed the same item?

On a seperate note, did the rumoured bigger engined Z ever happen?

Dunno re the blocks - never really into the Vel Satis - its an odd looking bus.

Looks likely that the 09 Zed will be running an NA 3.7/3.8 litre engine. It would be nice to get a 3.0litre Turbo option TBH - the chassis is capable of handling much more power - or maybe the new GTR engine  (no chance).
