You'd want to get some cold air ducting in there sharpish Ronan, doesn't look like theres a whole lot of space in there! Cya @ 9 in the morning.

the filter is actually positioned directly over the old air feed, so its getting some air alright, room is tight but im designing a aluminum heat shielded enclosure for it, hope to have this done in next few weeks, the improvment the hks gave was mad, car is running smoother and using less petrol, feels like ive gained a few decent bhp too

You should put the old airbox back in and dyno the car tomorrow, then give it a run with the kit in place to see what sort of gains (or losses!) you've acheived- at the last session, Daz's GPX was 1bhp down over the stock filter with a K&N fitted cone filter :?

this should clear everything up about a loss with the HKS :D not really possible, has to be increase lol, ant afford to do 2 runs either ;-)

also this kit wasnt a universal one, its came from japan made for the 4g92 MIVEC hehehe

here we go again ;)

Trust me, you can get losses, its been proven before, especially now that you're sucking in warmer\less oxygen-dense air into your engine. You really need a cold air induction setup and a full aftermarket exhaust system to realise any serious performance gains. If you get more than 1 bhp extra out of your filter tomorrow, I'll eat half the spuds out of MfFTOs boot ;)

Would you like butter with those spuds CJ?

He has a point Ronan - sucking warm air from your engine bay will put a big dent in the 8BHP advantage - plus without a performance (less restrictive) exhaust it is unlikely you'll see that gain even with the air induction kit.

I'll bring my Standard filter as well as the ITG and see what happens - I'm not going to clean the ITG for the occasion either - and its been on 8 months now so it'll be quite a realistic comparison.

I have the HKS on the 1.8 RS Mazda Roadster - and it sounds fantasic - better than the ITG for sure - Excellent filter regardless of the extra power output.

I love the sound from the ITG Im not at all bothered about power gains or losses unless significant. I dont think you'd notice unless it was 10/20 bhp. The Noise from the ITG gives a sensation of speed which is what its all about for me

Very unlikely as they used Stuart's (the Freak) FTO from the UK forum.

if you look at the chart the dyno for standard is 189bhp which sounds about right for a standard FTO? but I do agree that warm air takes bhp away...its positioned directly over the standard cold air feed so its getting some cold air alright

Just on the whole cold air induction thing - On the Mazda I have - the HKS filter is placed just behind the headlight unit - so for 1/4 mile runs etc - you just unbolt the headlight. Not a permanent solution but a good way to ensure max air.

I'll be bringing out a new and improved "ThermaGarda" (any similarities are purely co-incidental) once I get a look at CJ's heat shield.

This is a GPS type product which can find its way to the nearest donut shop in seconds!

Speaking of donuts shops they passed me doing 80 killamodules in a 50 killamodules zone this morning on there way to a garage which does fine breakfast rolls (i seen them pulling in) thought I was going to be hit with two superclub points
