Gauges installed in the Rex

I installed boost, oil temp and oil pressure gauges in the RX-7 during the week, pretty staighforward job. The gauges should prove useful in terms of indicating whats going on under the bonnet.

I ended up installing a DIN style gauge holder. Between dials, oil filter sandwich plate and gauge holder (all off ebay), I ended up spending about €160 - very good price I reckon.





Hose and sender cabling were fed thru the main harness grommet in the firewall while power (switched and lights) was taken from the cig lighter.
Reckon I'll get some gauges into the FTO on the near future, oil temp and pressure would be useful for a start. I might even stick in a second water temp gauge, the stock unit on the FTO isn't particularly accurate in my experience.

What's the line of sight to the gauges like while drivin? Noticed that they're located under the stereo, I know the rex is tighter than a cavan mans dinner drawer, just wondering whether location of the gauges makes'em difficult to read when driving " in an orderly and compliant " nature?

LOS isn't too bad, the gauge holder is angled towards the driver although the boost gauge is obscured slightly when in first gear. I might swap the stereo and the gauges around...

Any chance of one goin up on the dash or at the windscreen pillar? Boost gauge perhaps? Might be a bit too in yer face, ruin the understatedness ( if there is such a word ) of the car??

Theres not a whole lot of room for A-pillar pods in the RX-7, put it this way, you would want to have the hands of a small child to protect against smacking the pod every time you go full lock.

A dash mounted pod was my first preference but you can't get them for love nor money at the minute - theres a guy in the US that makes 'em specifically for the 3rd gen RX-7 but he's dissapeared off the face of the earth. They look like this (LHD but you get the idea, he also makes RHD pods):
