Error codes for my gearbox

Postby boru » Fri Jan 30, 2009 8:16 pm

Hi, just wondering who does the mechanicing for all you northerner FTO ers. My regular mechanic doesn't have a diagnostic checker for the FTO so I need someone else. Any suggestions welcomed.

DIY.

Search the forum for diagnostic, it's a simple procedure.
There's plenty of guides here.

1 flash per second (1hz) means all is OK. Long and short flashes means error codes are stored in the ECU. Same for the 'N' light in terms of gearbox sensor codes.

Tried it again and am getting 2 codes from the N light, codes 42 + 43. 42= 2nd gear ratio does not meet specification
43= 3rd gear ratio does not meet specification
Would this indicate a faulty sensor or something else.

Replace the input and output speed sensors, its an easy job (located on top of the box). Faulty sensors are one of the most common problems in relation to (non terminal) A/T issues. Available from Camskill:

The sensors are either 4 pin or 3 pin, they are not model or box specific. THink it dpeends on the year and chassis no.

Sensors above may well be the one you are after. Unplug one of yours and see the number of pins
Either 3 pins in a row or 2 over 2

Excuse my complete lack of knowledge  but where are these sensors located. Are they accessible from working under the bonnet or from under the car. I've taken the filter box off to give me a better view but still can't see anything that looks like them. Help

The sensors are located on top of the gearbox, you access from above. I think you need to take the battery and tray out to get access.
