Don't you just love our County!!! Limerick!!!

Postby Marie » Wed Apr 09, 2008 3:57 pm

Friday I was mugged on the way from FROM the bank!

Should have picked up on it sooner, but it was Friday I was tired, I was looking forward to the week end!

Noticed all last week that when I'd park in town there seamed to be the same crowd of young fela's outside the youth centre, they even starting keeping a parking spot for me, how nice I thought! :D I thought at first they just liked my car which they must not have other wise they would now have broken my windows!

Story goes anyway they had been watching me all week, they must have thought I withdrew money everyday, when I was coming back to my car Friday one of them asked me for a fag, I didn't feel safe so I just said sorry lad's I don't smoke, one of them then choose to grab my bag & I managed to get free & got into my car & closed the door's as I went to drive away the smashed in my driver-side window & put a screw driver to my neck & said give us the money? Except I really had nothing to give? So they ended up with my wallet & my wages! They ran when I decided to keep my hand on the car horn!

About 14 top's I'd put on them! Twat's! Tipical Limerick, my own fault for parking outside the youth centre!!!

But broke my F**king window eh!!! :smt009

What part of Limerick Marie?
Girl on her own - Scumbags saw an easy target - People in Limerick allways go on about how the city has an unfair rep but in my experience theres nothing unfair about it.

Just there at the side of where Smiths Toystore used to be? Don't know the name of the street, if your turning off O'connell street & you want to come out onto henry street? The guards station is facing right up it?

Sh1te - Thats right opposite Henry St Garda station - the biggest Garda station in Limerick!

Thats unbelieveably brazen.

The fact that they were hanging out at this club for a period of time means they will be known to whoever runs that centre. I presume youand the Guards already have a handle on who is involved?

Sorry to hear that.
The important thing to remember though is your window is a lot easier fix after an attack than you are, and money is replaceable, so glad you’re physically ok!
Terrible experience though, and a typical display of the respect they have for the law when then pull that so close to the garda station.
Not sure what you’re doing about your window, but if your need anything picked up from Steelroe, I could do with picking up some stuff myself there and would be only to happy to collect something if its any help?

Sorry to hear it Marie, glad you're ok.
At least a company car will keep the miles off the FTO :)

I agree with Shane, the bad rep is totally justified.
Unfortunately it's not just Limerick, or cities for that matter.

I've seen a gang of kids who were caught shoplifting in a shop giving a woman a load of hassle for throwing them out. 12 year olds at the most

And there's controversy about arming the gardai...

Tough break Marie. Least you got out relatively safe anyway. And I know Limerick has a lot of bad rep, I'm not from Limerick myself, never lived there, have no reason to be backing it up, but, the same is starting to happen for some time in other cities around too. I used live in an estate in Cork when I was in college, and it was the groups of 14-15 year olds you'd be afraid of, girls in particular! Cause you could fight back with fellas, but touch a female and Hello Courtcase!

Glad you are OK.

This is now happening in every small town and village.
3 local Gardai we recently assaulted while arresting local drunken youths, 1 suffered a head kicking, 1 broken thumb, and lat week another had his wrist broken. Seperate incidents. Ther is absolutely now respect for the law anymore aspecially among the younger age.

Marie, bad things seem to happen to you... first the incident with the fueding families, now this... glad you're okay anyway. You must curse a lot that is why you're getting all this bad karma :)

I lived in Limerick for 4 years, and I will defend it always. In fact, I'm looking for jobs there now! As long as I've been socialising there I've never seen fights breaking out, a stabbing, anything like that. Where as in Clonmel...

As was mentioned earlier - it's not just Limerick, it's everywhere.

Simply, there is no respect for the law because the law is not enforced. And who would be afraid of a cop who can at most, verbally abuse you?

thats terrible!!! Really glad your ok Marie. It's only a few weeks since we had a group of youths attack to Polish guys in their late 20s here in Dublin. One scumbag stabbed the guys in the neck and face/head with a screw driver. They attacked them because the two polish guys would not buy alcohol in the local shop for the gang! Both polish guys died in hospital less than 1 week later from their injuries... Same thing again the attackers were only 16 so could not be tried as adults and are not even charged as yet. total balls. I really see a future for vigilantism here in Ireland. The youth know they can do anything, rape/stab/beat/rob and there is no reprimand. maybe 12 months in a kids home where they meet other scummers and exchange war stories about who is the baddest. And that my friends is what I hate most about Ireland today...

Sorry to hear this - not nice when it happens to anyone and having been victem of a serious assault in my younger days I can sympathise (although your case sounds particularly traumatic)

Only solution in my eyes is to restore some form of capital punishment - I quite like the approach some muslim countries take only not so extreme -

Taking serious assualt or muggings like this as an example I'd propose the following approach:

1st offence, public whipping plus jail term
2nd offence lose a hand
3rd offence lose other hand
4th offence lose a foot
etc.

You get my point - as already mentioned - there is no respect and certainly no fear for law and that needs to be rectified.

Sorry to hear this Marie, and the main thing is that you're ok!! And kudos to your boss for repaying you your wage and offering a company car!

Shane, I don't think that loosing a hand is the way to go, because you're guaranteed this scumbags would be claiming disability then!!

Good point... but at least you'd be able to spot them a mile away..... I'd nearly pay extra tax for that privilege.

Missed this completely until now, glad to hear you weren't hurt!

Fantastic having a boss like that, paying the money in again and looking after you with a company car. That can't be easy to find these days!

Hope the little scumbags get whats coming to them...

It's likely that you'll have to pay benefit in kind if you get the Mondeo from the company Marie. unless you plan on spending over 70% of your day away from the office :(
