Second Car Ariel

Postby Viper » Fri Apr 16, 2004 12:41 pm

Beside the passenger side front headlight on my car (96 GR), there is what looks like a retractible ariel. I don't have a camera so I cannot take a picture, but to describe it, it cuts through the place where the front bumper touches the side of the light. Does anyone know what this is for (I went through loads of galleries and couldn't find another example of it. Also, I already have the standard retractable ariel at the rear of the car, so it's not as though it was just repositioned in this particular model.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, namely if this is a standard piece of kit on the car, and if so, what it is used for. (it does not extend at the moment).

Yep, its a parking aid that you tend to find on a lot of Jap cars, personally, I always thought they looked a bit silly...

So what does it do exactly? I tried to extend in last night but was afraid in case I break it. Is there supposed to be something in the car which uses is as a sensor?

i don't think it works on a sensor. you can see the top of it when you are parking and it gives you a guide as to the position of that corner of the bumper. for if you are parking close to a wall or other car...

Hmmm... interesting concept indeed... I will have to try it out tomorrow and see if it extends up., then do a little tight parking! Thanks for all the help!
