Top Speed of a delimted FTO Gr/GPX

I'm just after reading this:

Mines a GPX and more than capable of 270kph. There isnt a great deal of difference between the mivec and non mivec FTO's, and in some cases non mivec GR's have been able to wipe the floor with its bigger brother, all dependant on the modifications, as the title suggests this isnt a standard FTO...

The proof is right there anyway, what more do you want?

Has anybody with a delimted GR or GPX maxed it out in 5th (on the track of course, where else??!) and if so what was the top speed?

I haven't done it myself but the figure I've heard bandied about is 140mph (224kph). I have no idea where this comes from though so I suppose it's useless conjecture. It sounds feasible though.

I'd love to get on a track and test it myself.

The video just shows the needle moving to the right, maybe he just bounced of the limiter at 180KPH.....

I think the theoretical top speed according to the gearing on a mivec manual (Gear Ratio by RPM) would be circa 160mph. But of course the FTO would come up against a power/aerodynamic wall well before this.

I reckon a healthy Mivec manual would be capable of 145mph. This was AFAIK Mitsubishis claim when they sold the FTO in the UK and offical car magazine tests tend to put it at around the 140/145mph mark.

yeah - I know he might not be telling the truth .. hence I thought I'd ask I just can't see my fto doing 270kph without having something pretty major done to it..

I have a delimited gpx. I had it on the dyno after I got it and they got 135mph from the car they said I could go faster but I was doing a power run not looking for my top speed.

I have a de-restricted GX & managed to go to 140 mph with a bit left to run. Started running out of road so I had to lift off. I was quite impressed to get it that far! Just to note I have no modified engine parts.

I've heard figures of 150 - 160MPH bandied around for a few years now.

Note that dyno and road are different scenarios when you consider wind resistance and drag coefficients. I seem to remember a thread on the FTOOC a few years ago from a guy who achieved 180MPH on the dyno in a facelift GPX, he had evidence to back it up IIRC.

Absolutely, I don't condone speeding on public roads! I'm sure that's the view shared by FTO-Ireland also!

You must have the rare G Force meter fitted then!

When you go to sell your FTO make sure you advertise it with a 662kph top speed and backup with photo evidence.

Close enough, I was on board a boeing 737-800 en route to Liverpool.
I just thought it would be a cool thing to try.

Pretty cool Bernard. Must try that myself next time... My Nokia N82 has GPS and if you choose "GPS data" it also tells you the altitude and the speed.
