Explanations!

Postby sinlessgunner » Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:17 pm

Hi guys,

Ok everyone here seems to have a good idea of what they're talking about when it comes to cars. Me......not a clue really know a little of the basic stuff. I have a couple of questions.

1. What is an induction kit and how would I know if there was one already in my car?

2. Are LEDs and Dial Rings hard to install?

3. I have a huge gap in my dash from the original radio that was in. Whats the best way to fill it without costing me a fortune??

4. Where is the stepper motor on a GPX?

That's all for now....I know I have more jus cant think of them! :?

1. Basically amounts to an air filter. The stock one is pretty much all black plastic leading to just behind the passenger side light. If you've got something red/blue/green or with a brand on it there then you've got an induction kit.

2. dial rings no, very easy, just takes a little time to get the get the dials out to install them. A few screws. Haven't done the LEDs myself but it didn't sound too bad a job, someone who's done it will know better.

3. Assuming you have a 1 DIN radio, maybe a trinket tray? See camskill.co.uk site for an example

4. I think its the same place as on a GR, as you face the car from the front, on the right hand side of the intake manifold. IIRC you can check out ftodiy.co.uk for a how to clean it, and it has diagrams for where its located.

I've taken my trinket tray out to fit a double din radio, if you're around for the meet you can have it free.

Or a lot of induction kits are conical or mushroom shaped, they get rid of a lot of pipework that sucks the air in and get the air quicker into the engine. Also means you dont have to change your air filter every time you service, taking the cone off and washing it does the job. Gets the flies out of it.

Did someone say free?

Colm_mcm I am getting sick of the piece of plastic that I use to cover the hole in my dash. I'd love a trinket tray. Hell, I'd even collect it.

Thanks
