Auto box question

Postby Big Dogg » Wed May 14, 2008 2:40 am

Is it harmful to the car to put it into Neutral as it's driving (to rev it up for example), then back to Drive whilst still moving? Did it once and didn't do it any harm, but wouldn't risk making a habit of it if it'll harm the gearbox/engine.

it's not recommended.

Have a read of this post CJ posted last year that answers any questions you might have with regards to minding the gearbox

Happened me today accidently, thought I was in manual and slipped it up, didnt do any damage but I wouldnt do it again, absolutely no way, not at the cost of those boxes. I would have thought you'd have to press the button to change into manual while in auto mode but no. Strange really.

usually on automatic boxes across the board, it's possible to change from D to N and back to D without pressing buttons or brake pedal, it's only changing from N to R or from R to P that is restricted (for obvious reasons!)
