On the VRT question, If you ring the VRT place with the chassis number they will give you an exact amount, that's what I did anyway. If you give make and model they will give you an amount but until they enter the exact chassis number into their system they won't be able to give you the exact amount.

So really you need to find a car and get it's chassis number before you can get a proper quote - I wonder how UK garages would react to being asked for the chassis number of the car before you buy it - I suppose there shouldn't be any real issue though?
