LEDS getting hassle from the cops!

Postby adrian » Fri Nov 10, 2006 9:41 am

Hi all. I have little blue LEDs on the front of my Hilux

You can sort of see them here: http://www.carwatch.ie/hilux/delivered/152_5260.JPG

Now, some Gardai have a great interest in them for some reason. One yesterday evening described them as "highly and totally illegal"... a fully taxes, insured jeep, I had my seatbealt on and was driving carefully as I do... but I was the one in a hue line of cars that he singled out. Anyway, rant over.... now I have to change them.

There are blue bulbs inside them... and they look a very weird/small size...and not wanted to dismantle the entire unit to try to change them I am wondering if I could cover the little perspex covers with another colour to make them red or green or something? Any ideas? I had thought of that stuff you used to have to use going to France to paint them with...the tellow headlight stuff. but that's not longer sold anymore.

I looked at just disconneting them for now but the wiring that was done looks pretty permanent!

Any sugestions of how to neatly colour or change them appreciated.... I'm paranoid driving by Gardai now!

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of them on - I always thought these coloured LEDS looked a bit....well - tacky (NOI).

Is it just that they're blue (and thus makes your car look like a garda 'veh-hickle') that he has a problem with, or that they're there at all? :?

As far as I'm aware the only color you cant have on the front of your car is red.. You might want to go to your local gardai station to enquire..

Thanks all. I'll get you a pic CJ. Seems to be the way they do things in Thailand.... I like them though.

Gardai have a problem as blue is only allowed for emergency vehicles only

Hmm I suppose - maybe the red thing applies to those window washer things only..
