Need help with diagnostic code

Postby jayod12b » Fri Mar 06, 2009 8:19 pm

Hi all looking for some advice,

Been without my mivec for a while now,

Switch ignition on, volt meter reads 8 volts

Rev the car to 5,500 rpm and alternator starts charging reads 14V now,

This repeats itself everytime i switch the engine off.

But the car limits at this rpm and wont activate the mivec no matter how

warm the engine has got.

So done a diagnostic test last wkend and i got the follow reading which i think is

14 Throttle position sensor
64 Alternator FR terminal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zq-p0UgTOeE

11 Oxygen Sensor
12 Air Flow Sensor
13 Intake air temperature sensor
14 Throttle position sensor
15 ISC Motor Position Sensor
21 Engine coolant temperature sensor
22 Crank angle sensor
23 Camshaft position sensor
24 Vehicle speed sensor
25 BARO Sensor (listed as 26 in one info source)
31 Detonation sensor
32 Vacuum sensor
36 Ignition Timing Adjustment Signal
39 Oxygen Sensor
41 Injector system
42 Fuel Pump
43 EGR
44 Ignition coil and power transistor unit (Cylinder 1 & 4)
52 Ignition coil and power transistor unit (Cylinder 2 & 5)
53 Ignition coil and power transistor unit (Cylinder 3 & 6)
55 Idle Air Control Valve/Servo Valve Position Sensor
61 Communications wire with A/T-ECU
62 Intake air control valve position sensor
64 Alternator FR terminal
71 Vacuum control solenoid valve (TCL)
72 Ventilation control solenoid valve (TCL)

Can anyone confirm this for me and maybe explain some more?

Thanks for any help

Sounds likes the alt is on the way out, get it reconditioned for a start. To test if its working properly, disconnct the negative battery terminal when the engine is at idle, if the engine cuts out, the alt isn't charging.

Check the terminal on the TPS (black plastic unit on throttle body) to ensure wires aren't broken. Disconnect the battery for a half an hour to clear the codes then drive the car for a day or so. If the code reappears, replace the TPS.

Im on my 3rd alternator in 6 months,

Got diode pack replaced by an auto electrican but mivec wudnt activate,

So then purchased another one from ebay that was only 6 months old out of camskil thinking that i needed a certain diode for the mivec to work.

Then i have this,

Do u reckon the TPS could be causing the problem for both alternator and mivec because alternator works fine when u rev to 5,500

I doubt it. I had to replace the TPS in the RX-7, it was idling rough, hunting and cutting out, a new TPS sorted it.

Try the negative terminal disconnect out of interest...

Sound like you have a recon alt that was done incorrectly.

Testing a 4 pin alt is diff to 3 pin. Even if you are getting 14v it stil may be causing probs.

Reset ECU and then carry out diag after a drive. see if both codes re-appear

Checked all wires and the connector into alternator seem fine,

Removed the negative wire to battery aswell when the car was running and alternator was still charging ok :?

Looked at TPS connector it seemed alrite aswell is there anyway of testing it before i get another one?

Any other suggestions :(

Don't quote me on this but I seem to remember a section in the workshop manual on testing the TPS. You need a mutlmeter and a power source to measure resistance (IIRC, the TPS is a simple potentiometer device).

Just to let anyone else know who mite come into this problem at some stage!

The fto mivec needs a special diode pack when its reconditioned,
Make sure your auto eletrican knows this before going at the job,

Mine didnt and when i spoke to him afterwards he didnt want to know about it because it still charges perfectly to 14V but wont pass 5,500rpm and activate mivec,

Ended up buyin a new one off ebay last week,

Put it into the car last friday and shes back singing again :D :D
Only good think thats come out of all this is ive it down too 45 minutes out and in with the new Alternator,
was pleased with that :)

Anyways thanks for the help lads
