trouble starting

Postby Mille » Fri Oct 03, 2008 1:11 pm

Hi Guys

My FTO is very slow to start first thing in the morning. It needs to turn over a few times before the engine engages. It splutters a little but eventually catches on .
Then its fine for the rest of the day .

Ive chenged the temp sendor and the problem is still there.

Anyone recommend what to try next ?

Sounds like the batterys not holding its charge mate.test it in the morning after its bin left overnite and it should read 12volts.if its less its knackered.u can also undo the top bits 2check the cells.if any of them bubble while testing it then it needs changing

As Colm says .... its nothing to do with the battery or starter.Engine turning fine.

The only way I can get it started in the morning is having the accelerator pressed to the floor and she fires up in a spluttering matter

Could be a fueling problem, change the fuel filter for starters. COuld also be bad plugs or wires - checked or changed them recently?

Interestingly my car has developed a similar problem over the last couple of days.

I'm more inclined to suspect the battery though, given that I got a text from my tracker people about a month ago telling me it was low (didn't seem to be particularly low at the time though).

If the starter motor is turning ok, then it's not the battery.
