dublin airport customs

Has anyone on here been through dublin airport customs from New York lately? Planning on getting a few bits on account of the great dollar exchange rate while I'm over next week. I'm hearing loads of things on the radio but does anyone know anyone who has been been stopped

If you remove the items you bought from their packaging, would you be ok? Are you shopping for presents?

Yeah the odd gift but I hope to buy a push bike so it will be big! I'm probably mad but have got it into my head

push bike? won't that be expensive to crate on the plane? extra luggae charges...
If its a gift like jewerally or an expensive watch, wear it. If its a gift for someone else, you may well have your bag checked. If they find all the packaging too I'd say they will charge duty.

Mark you might be better off to buy it there and then post it over yourself..

did you check out the chainreaction website - usually some good deals on there..

The bike will be in a special bike bag and it's booked on the flight so shouldn't cost too much in excess if at all.
I could post it but it could get damaged and will get charged duty for sure. It's my way of saving the planet!!
just wondering if anyone has been through the airport lately and what to expect. Cheers guys.

Ah once you have it booked you'll prolly be fine..

If you can take it for a spin before packing it - and remove all papers for the bike that would indicate that it's new you should breeze through.

Yeah that's sort of the idea. I'll put it this way, the bike is a wee bit more than the allowance
