petrol and tax in OZ

Postby AL » Wed Dec 12, 2007 2:02 pm

been on hols to australia and was shocked to find how expensive it has become, $1.19 in brisbane and $1.33 in perth, this is still under a euro, but not by much,
octane values for petrol start as low as 91 octane for standard, there is also a 95 and 98 octane.
the 98 is $1.50+.

on a better note the car tax is a flat rate no matter what size engine you have $300+ and this also give you insurance on your vehicle of third party :)
was looking at some lovely holden commodores over there, they look the bizz, but they are vauxhalls afterall, so im a bit torn on this one, lol

Thought they had no tax and insurance over there? Not compulsory anyways. Or is that NZ?

tax is compulsory, insurance isnt, but if you have a half decent car in australia your better off getting full cover. i found most drivers there to be appauling ( lane changing without indicators seems to be the norm ) they dont seem to use fast lane for overtaking............ sorry im starting to rant, nuff said!

In NZ we don't have compulsory insurance, they are thinking of introducing it however and i really hope they do.

Petrol here is currently NZ$1.71 for 91 NZ$1.75 for 95 and not quite sure what 98 is at the moment but too much for me :x

As far as tax goes we have rego's which might be the same thing?? which is generally 200 a yr
