Body work

Does anyone know any good bodyshops in Limerick or nearby?

Want to get all the little chips, scratches and dents sorted methinks.

Dermot O'Dwyer did all the work on my last FTO (& present Zed) including quite a bit of cosmetic bits & bobs - 086 844 3985 - 061 324 494.

He has a bodyshop in the Clondrinagh Industrial Estate - Ennis road - first left at the second roundabout out the Dual carriageway. Has an oven/spray booth etc - very reasonable and knows the FTO inside-out at this stage.

Oh dear, so here's the damage... if I want it to look good then 2k...

Otherwise roof needs doing first - 340.

Don't know what to do... he says to just continue touching it up and polishing and just get the roof done. Dilemma!!! I hate those scratches, chips and one dent... :(

What I'd like to know is how the hell the rest of ye get away with all your chips and scratches...

Everybody's driven mad by chips and scratches. You just have to bite the bullet and pay the price or try and get over it unfotunately.

I know how you feel. I've a couple of bodywork issues to sort myself and it's gonna hit me in the wallet big time.

Still, I'd avoid spending too much because at the end of the day the car's for driving first, looking at second, and if you get lots of work done it could be undone the following week when someone gives it a belt of a door in a carpark.

2K seems quite excessive though...my Girlfriends Dad is a panel beater by trade and I know for a fact that he's very good at what he does and doesn't charge anywhere near that sort of money...he does everything from badly crashed cars to stone chippings damage. He done a great job on my FTO (for a discount price of course :D ) and it was great until I reversed into a stone wall yesterday :( so now he has to do more on it and probably won't be as kind haha!

I know that dents and scratches can be annoying but 2k out of your pocket would be even more annoying!! I'm sure you could get a much more reasonable price than that!

Thats full respray money. Just get him to sort out the dings and stonechips and blend in the paintwork. Shouldn't cost anymore than 600-800Euro MAX. It will look good as new afterwards.

Dermot sorted out my last FTO for around the 2K mark but it included fitting a full bodykit and blending in the DC skirts/ delocking etc - took a week of labour to get right.

He can't he said, without respraying it all. Because they are so widespread across the car the paint wouldn't look right and he couldn't blend it in properly without it looking stupid. So it would be a full respray. Also said something about how they don't make that paint anymore and that he's have to paint it matt black? I thought black FTO's were metallic black...

I think I'm right in saying that all new paint has to be water based for environmental reasons...

Dont, I'm lucky as a white car just doesnt show them up as much cause the undercoat is white too. But when I get close to it waxing or something then you can see them. Damn things. Why the hell do they put a foot deep of chips on roads anyway??

Try some colour magic, it'll help with the small scratches.

yup, it's legal to use old type paint if it was bought in before the new regulations came in.

Orange Motor's! Yes I know there known for sticking car's together! & I personally wouldn't buy off them! But you can't fault their work! There car's are spotless! & only for my partner work's in the car buisness I'd have never ben none the wiser on looking at one of their pre crashed car's! We had the NCT their on one of our car's last month & it failed on a visual thing so we popped into them to get it repaired, so we could drive straight back up to the NCT, out of sheer nosey-ness  I asked how much would it cost to get my FTO fully cleaned down all dent's scrapes! FULL Body! Pluss a respray! As in under bonnet, door frames! All the little bit's you can't even see! I was quoted €1200.00! Full respray guy's!

Wheres Orange Motors?
For €1200 I can guarantee they won't be taking off body panels or spraying under bonnet. It wouldn't cover their labour rate never mind matierials or profit margin.

I imagine the above quote was just to sort the dents, mask off the FTO and give it the once over with the same colour white as your car. Its still a very good price even at that but you will be risking areas of overspray etc.

It's on the Ballysimon Road!

And yes €1200.00 for a full respray with all the prep done before hand!

They are body wizard's up there! I'd say some of the best crash repair mechanic's in Ireland! Seriously worth a look!

Oh I dunno, all sounds a bit dodge, dermot was saying to me I could get it done elsewhere for around a grand alright, but it wouldn't be done right - basically you get what you pay for....

For 1200 you are only going to get a "masked" job, no way are they going to remove everything.

To do a proper job all trims, glass lights etc must be removed.
The door handles need removine as the have a rubber eseal, the mirrors have to be removec and dismantled, sprayed seperate.

In my opinion masking is only a quick solution on a complete spray job and there is always a risk of lacquer lifting near where the edge of the masking tape was.

2.5-3K would be more like the pricing I would expect.

Guys, I wouldn't buy a spark plug from that crowd, not to mind let them near my car. Do a search on boards.ie -

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthre ... 2055185296

http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/Owner ... 3880918.jp

there are a few stories going around, and while there's no guaruntee that they're true, it would put me off going near them.

they changed their name to NRG motors lately didn't they? It always sets off alarm bells with me if garages change their name. They also don't appear to have a landline, which is unusual for a garage.
