I checked all fuses inside and out - They're all fine. I'm running out of options at this stage......

One of the lads reckon that when I disconnected the exhaust from the manifold to get at the starter that I tripped a sensor that needs to be reset as it is stopping the car from starting!

Anyone heard of this before?

Problems with the lambda sensor or exhaust temp sensor won't stop the car from starting. I suggest you undertake a full diagnostic as per the link in my previous post. Its a very easy process and will indicate if any of the sensors are operating out of tolerance.

Hi CJ,

I did the full diagnostics last night - When I earthed the electrical cable the engine warning light started flashing continuously - more than once per second (almost twice per second) - From the link you provided previously it stated that it should be once per second if there are no errors - Im not sure if the result I got suggests anything?

Thanks

So you did, I missed your reply.

Assuming the starter is engaging the flywheel, the problem must be related to fueling i.e. no fuel getting to the injectors. The most likely cause is the immobilisor. Depending on how the alrm is wired up, you may need to bypass it in an effort to test this hypothesis, personally, I would leave this to a Clifford certified installer.

You could also test the fuel pump to see it its getting power - remove the inspection cover under the rear seats (4 screws, you can't miss it) and test the live feed with a multimeter while someone turns over the engine.

Its also possible (but less likely) that the fuel filter (behind the engine at the bulkhead) is blocked), normally a clogged fuel filter results in fuel cut @ high RPM and erratic running. Change the filter if you've no evidence of it being done before.

Fixed!!: My FTO GR won't start

Postby briencrean » Sat May 31, 2008 4:05 pm

Hi everyone,

My FTO is back up and running!!

I decided to go back to the beginning, so I took the starter motor out again last night and examined the connections - The copper bolt stud coming out of the starter motor's body that connects to the positive connection from the battery was damaged. I hadn't spotted this before and I probably caused the problem when I put the motor back in myself! This prevented the correct amount of current getting to the motor to give it the strength to push the flywheel adequately.

I also tested the power of my battery with a Multimeter - It read 9 Volts both from the battery and at the connection to the starter motor.

Both of these combined prevented me from starting the car. I got the positive connection replaced on the motor by my trusty auto-electrician and charged the battery using another car and the car started perfectly - even better than before!

Its running fine now but needs a full service!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone, I don't think I would have solved the problem without them :)

Time for a drive!

Thanks Again

Hi Laura,

his name is Des Kennedy and he works near Garryowen (Not too far from Fuscos fast food if you know Garryowen) he has a garage on the street directly behind the old Pike Inn/Stuffins on Mulgrave Street/Ballysimon Road. There is no sign over the door to indicate where his garage is but you'll find it.

He is very good at what he does and very reasonable. His number is 061418659.

Regards
