Something else to stop theft.

Postby Dean » Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:19 am

Hey guys I remember someone saying they used to remove a certain part from the car to stop it from being started. But I cant find what it was or who said it.
My girlfriend lives in an area where two cars have been stolen in the past week, and I want to make sure even if they do manage to get past the Disklok and the Immobilser that there is no chance the thing can start.
Something I can take inside with me and isnt too hard to remove.

Any ideas?

Ok, so wont damage the car if its attempted to be started without it?

And I have never looked in the fusebox....is it labelled?

Passenger footwell - reach up and unplug the ECU.
Or take out the main engine fuse.

Dean those diskloks are pretty serious stuff -I know I have one myself.
Is it your car you're are asking about or hers???
Taking out the fuse is a good safeguard alright but hardly sustainable on a nightly basis..

Arg, I was hoping its like one of those little yellow or red fuses that you just yoink out from near under the steering wheel.

Something for peace of mind apart from the glaringly obvious Disklok.

REmoving the ECU? It doesnt reset anything or cause any issues does it?

No problems I'm aware of.
Another good one would be to install a fuel cut off switch - I had one of these in my last car. Now that I'm living out in the sticks with two Rottweilers for company I don't tend to worry so much about car security.
