Laser Eye Surgery

Anyone here get it done?
I've talked to a few people who've had it and all the reports seem good.
I'm considering going for it in a couple of months.

Nearly 100% of what Ive heard is good, however I know one or two people who claim their eyesight reverted back after awhile. (i presume it was a few years) Ive been toying with the idea myself but the technique is quite cringeful. Although apparently not painful as such this is an element of discomfort.

Not personally but my mates sister had it done and she has nothing but good thngs to say about it. Even if you have to go back in a couple of years and get it done again the amount you'll save on glasses/contact lenses in that time would cover the cost of a second op. Thats the way she looked at it anyway. Each pair of glasses is a couple of hundred €'s so after 2 or 3 years you'd have saved enough for another op.
There is an ad offering a special rate on it at the moment so might be a good time to do it.

Guy at work had it done, had a bit of trouble with one eye. got it sorted in the end though.

Lady friend of my lady friend had her eyes over adjusted.. so now she has the opposite of what she had before the op..

I cant remember which way around it is.. but lets say she could only see stuff upclose before..now she can only see things that are far away (not small & upclose)...

Not sure what she's going doing about it..but for now I hear she's back wearing glasses.






Personally I'm happy I wasn't born with Laser eyes, sounds like a lot of trouble.

I know of a few people that got it, but it was all good. Just be aware that theres the laser and then theres the second treatment after which prevents the eyes from clouding or something at night time. When you see the ads for the really cheap ones thats the price excluding the second treatment, the more expensive ones include the second treatment.
But its def something I'll be looking at too in the future. Would be a good choice.

I've had a look on some of the companies websites, you can basically discount the "€595 per eye" thing.
It's around €1500 per eye for the full works, not something you'd want to skimp on.

I wouldn't be doing it for a couple of months yet anyway, plenty of time to look around (no pun).

I wonder why they quote "per eye"? Do you think many people just get the one done to see if it works, then go back and get the other one to match

They quote per eye cause they dont recommend doing the 2 eyes at once. Most places will but as far as I know the majority do one first and then the other a few weeks later.

Not sure about that MJ, most people I've heard of got them both done the same day. I worked with a girl that got it done and she was back to work a couple days after, very quick results.

I asked an optician (admittedly not a laser surgery expert) when you hear that its not a 100% success rate, what exactly happens to those who's op isn't successful (are you completely blinded or similar)? Its generally that you don't quite get 20/20 vision, or that your vision disimproves over time again, but the risk of doing serious damage is very rare.

It's something I'll be looking into when I can get a few quid together myself.

Next thing is a drive to Newbridge in a fortnight to get zapped

I hadn't realised the higher your perscription the more it would cost.
Still, I'll be able to claim 20% back on PRSI

-6.75 in both eyes, so just about useless without my glasses.

Yeah, thought I heard somewhere it was priced based on prescription alright. That is pricey, will probably be over the €5k for me so, won't be getting it done for a while yet.

Good to know your eligible for it though, nice one!

I doubt it CJ, I'd say the price is proportional to how desperate a person is to get it, and how much they are willing to pay, and obviously the procedure is more worthwhile to someone with a really strong prescription.

I, like Bernard have a really strong prescription (-8.0 and -8.5, yeah, the proverbial bat has nothing on me), and as a result the lens alone for my glasses are about €300 a pop not including the price of frames, or else they would be massively thick. That and the fact that I too am absolutely useless without glasses or contacts means the procedure is worth a lot more to me than someone who has a vision of say -1.25 who can get a pair of glass for €100 and even get by without glasses from time to time. So they know I am likely to shell out more. I seriously doubt there is so much more laser work involved that it actually costs them more to perform.
