How long should a car battery last?

Postby adrian » Wed Aug 10, 2005 8:52 am

Hi all,

What is the average life of a car battery? I have not diven for nearly 2 weeks and the battery now does not have enough power to turn the car over. I read before that a car with an alarm with ultrasonics and a tracker could well be discharger after 2 weeks of sitting there....would that be right?

My battery is 5 years old (same as the car)

Adrian,

I had a new batt on a car with 2 alarms it was flat after 9 days, i'm guessing with all the stuff you have connected and the fact the batt is 5yr old it would last about a week or less at most.

Any battery as 2 year garanty. And life spand sould be around 4 to 5 year's.I know that from my motor factor day's.But that would be normal to go flat like that.

I've been looking into carputers lately, and some of the power supplies I've come across have an 'anti battery flattening' feature, when the volts get too low it cuts off the power.

I'd say your battery has probably done its time, get a new uprated battery if you can.

I tend to find those little batteries in the fto`s pathetic, I looked into it and found you can just fit a 72A battery in the tray, with the terminals the correct way around, on the basis you have a universal battery clamp as its quite wide, part number being an 096. I can only supply them locally but I cant transport by courier because of the acid.
