Refurbishment suggestions needed

Postby StewyD32 » Sun Oct 17, 2010 1:10 pm

Hey guys,
I need a few suggestions about some refurbishment im going to undertake soon, mainly the alloys which badly need to be done and some of the interior like my last FTO (which is still for sale  )

Im in two minds about leaving the alloys powder coated or doing then pitch black with lacquer!

And also in going to spray the top of the centre console and the door cards like my last FTO, but don't know whether to spray them silver to bring the car together or spray them blue to match the steering wheel and gear knob.

Met up with Paul during the week and he said powder coated and sprayed blue,
What you guys think.

The wheels, well, when I had that car I was going to sandblast them, repair the few light scuffs, and then spray black again and lacquer, just never got round to it. I think matt black would look dirty, and the powder coat might be a bit too high sheen if you get me, so paint and lacquer would be a nice in-between IMO.

As for inside, I think silver if anything. I was never the biggest fan of the blue steering wheel, even though it did feel very nice. CJ did the centre console of his (now Aido's car) and I think that looked tidy. Should be some photos round. The blue might look a bit tacky.

Keep the rims black or perhaps consider gunmetal. Mask off the tyres, sand down the rims (as best you can) and starting with a base coat of primer - spray several coats of your preferred colour and finish of with a couple of coats of clear lacquer.
Take your time with the spray can - nice light even coats and allow enough time between coats.

Don't spray the interior parts of the car - CF overlays (properly done) are much nicer.

A little in the expensive side, but would look great. Might look into that

dont spray the interior... no matter how good you do it, it will make it look like you sprayed it(cheap n tacky) go for the c/f overlay you can get it cheap enough on fleabay.
