Getting Excited!!

Postby adrian » Fri Jan 09, 2004 2:14 pm

Getting excited. 2 lads coming to see the FTO at the weekend and a lady interested in it too so getting excited about selling my baby and getting that manual GPX.
2 came up on the auction sites yesterday... both 1999 GPX manuals, silver and black. Don't wanna start bidding till I sell the GS.

sounds promising - be very interested in your experiences of importing (if you do go down that road) cause I'd consider importing an Evo as the prices here are just stupid! Although after driving one this morning I can see what (a) people pay the money nad (b) they are so hard to insure!

Ciaran,

You drove an EVO this morning?? What model? How did the GPX compare... or did it?! I know performance wise they'd out weight a GPX but nothing would in looks in my opinion!

T'was me who drove the Evo.... it was an Evo V. The guy that is gonna fit the new tipbox met me at east point and we went for a spin down the docks - he was picking up a car for a customer and agreed to take me down to look at some imports. It was black with a fat exhaust - very, very fast. Made GR feel pretty slow. Would reckon 0-60mph in 5 seconds (give or take a tenth or 2). I reckon there ain't much on irish roads that would touch these cars!

I had a look at a couple of std WRX's as well but I would only be interested in an Impreza if it's an STI - the std WRX is not supposed to be that quick while the STI is in same league as Evo's.

But prices over here would prevent me looking at an Evo (you'd pay upto €28K for a nice '98 / '99) so I would consider importing.

Adrian, if you do import it would be really useful if you could put something together for the site about your experiences.

I'll put something together for that CJ.

Sorry Shane, I thought it was CJ who drove the EVO....was half asleep at work! When you were down the docks looking at imports, where'd you go and was there any 98 or 99 FTO's??

Was down at what I imagine must be the import yard for cars....... loads and loads of jap cars. Mainly run of the mill cars, civics, lancers, galants etc..... not many performace cars except for the few WRX's and the Evo. FTO's seem to be very thin on the ground though and the guy I talked to said that he hasn't seen any come in for a while. Sorry mate.
