Changed Gearbox

Postby cobravee » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:27 pm

Heya all,

I had the gearbox on my fto changed from a automatic gearbox to a manual. The mechanic said there would be no problems with the job. I believe that the ECU is still the AT one due to the fact that the engine only seems to be getting the power of 3rd gear which is what is currently being displayed, but the manual gear box is in 5th gear and only slowely goes up to 80. Before this work was due I cold easily get 110+. (Not speeding, live on the Isle of Man  ). Will I need to change the ECU to a manual one? Will that include changing anything else?

Cheers,

You don't need to change the ECU. Its the same engine ECU for both cars. There is an additional ECU for the auto gearbox in center console. Did you take this out? I converted my FTO from an auto to a manual a while back. If you have any questions just ask.
(The Engine ECU is the one located in the passenger foot-well, leave it alone)

3rd gear is the default gear on the A/T. Sometimes when there is an a fault the car will drive in 3rd gear only. Example if a certain fuse blows.

Is the car a mivec?

Glad to hear it's working properly. You did'nt have to strip out the dash to get at it, just the whole center console. Probably would have been a bit easier.
Check your reverse lights to make sure there working after doing the conversion. A small bit of wiring work has to be done if not working.
