How about a Mitsi Colt? We've had 2 and couldn't fault them. I'll leave it up to you guys to check the safety record...

The Colt CJ is talking about is the older shape. My only 2 experiences of the new model involve tow-trucks and replacement gearboxes
That shape has been around since the mid 90's and is a development of the previous model, don't expect anything special in the safety department!

It's a common dilemma, do you go for Japanese reliability or European safety. In this price bracket, it's hard to get both, the only one that does this for small money is the Yaris.

Then there's the question of how relevant NCAP ratings are. these cars and their predecessors were never branded as deathtraps when they were new, it's just that advances in safety in new cars raise the benchmark.

My aunt has had two yaris's, one new and one second hand (a year old) no complaints. A reliable and competent little car, cool dashboard and overall easy on the eye :D

I'm in my 6th year selling Toyotas and have never had a Yaris come back on a recovery truck. I've only ever seen rare niggly problems on nearly new ones, and the only problems the older ones seem to give are with the radios and noisy water pumps after around 150000 miles (they're on a timing chain, so water pump rarely gets done at 60k like they would with a belt)

If she can stretch to a Yaris, then get one.

My mother and 2 sisters each have a Yaris, never had a complaint, definately a reliable car.
Our yard at home on weekends is a sight, 3 silver Yarii and the FTO in the middle.

Sorry guys been busy cramming for exams, thanks a bunch for the great feedback, i reckon a new car maybe on order in the next few weeks alright, my sister upgraded to a golf gt tdi so "may" be able to snag her old polo, its not in the best nick but runs :D....just about, ye some interesting views, i personally hate Yarises but have to admit there a very reliable little car a few friends have them, starlets we'll i'd have to get her a baseball cap and make her wear it 90 if she got one,I like the hyundai coupes but probably out of price range for a half decent one.

Seb- i doubt another FTO is on the cards as she's only on provisional, and would definitely think she'd be scared hoping into one from that box she was driving :D,
