Odometer readings

Postby Syst3m » Mon Dec 10, 2007 1:07 am

Hey all,

I am looking at replacing my '96 tip GR with a '96 MANUAL  GR. The car I'm looking at looks in mint condition and has certification for millage of just 26000kms! Would it have been possible for the clock to have been wound back in japan? likely/unlikely?

Cheers

Unlikely that any car would manage only 3,500kms per year.

Clocking is rife on Jap imports but its difficult to tell unless there has been very significant mileage clocked from car.

I guess you could check the belts - plugs - wear on the seats, pedals, steering wheel and gearknob (provided these haven't been changed) - any significant wear would suggest to me that someones telling porkies!

Interior looks pretty mint to me. Has the steering wheel been changed? or is the momo only stock on higher versions?

It would depend on what paperwork he had.

how long has he owned it, how many mot's (or your equivalent over there) has it had as milage should be noted on the forms, is it done yearly or every 2 years? ect. that would be the best way to find out.

Car looks very clean from the pictures but its difficult to tell without having a good look around the car.

The steering wheel is the base wheel on early FTO's. Doesn't seem to have much options apart from base - even still has the base 15 inch alloys on.

I worked mine out at around 4000 a year when I bought it, was doubtful of it, but when I checked all the tell tale points, I sort of thought maybe it had the low mileage. Seats were not worn, steering wheel had no smoothness where hands grab it, brake discs were even at the edges. I think in Japan, prob people use cars more for leisure and weekend driving more than anything, and use public or other cars for week transport. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd believe it.

Cheers Daz.

Well I went down to pick it up, still a bit skeptical about the kms but as soon as I saw it I knew they were legit.

Its a very tidy car, still feels like new. I'm loving it :D
