mivec v6 engine backfire and wont start

Postby ZINKED » Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:41 am

After dying, big back fire, after this suddenly happening checked the engine management, no fault codes found so full service was given however still the same problem. Took the carb apart cleaned out the idel speed control valve after putting it all back togethe,r the two rocker covers and air flow manifold then connected all the leads back together and again same problem, runs rough, splutters uncontrollably, revs not very responsive, everything mechanical wise is fine. Unplugged speed idel control valve it ran smooth for a minute but still same problem keeps occurring, even with the foot on the accelerator (during the service - oil and fuel filters, new gasket, covers plugs, air filter) really frustrating as mechanically its sound, need help ASAP 07875198267 still runs a bit but not drivable thanks Ryan in Edinburgh.

(Faulty MAP sensor. check the voltage on it is stable if the throttle isn't moved.

They only show as a fault if they go outside the voltage range or die. If they just get dry and hard or something stuck inside them the make the car run like crap.)

Changed that out and reset ecu still the same problem persists, runs good for a minute or so!
Thanks maybe its the two censers on the throttle body, cleaned them but none in the scrap yard. Possibly the one in the scrap yard is knackered as well!!!
Thanks for the help Ryan

First off check you plug leads are on correctly, and on the correct cylinders. Have you checked the coil packs to ensure they are working
Throttle position sensor maybe, causing too much fuel in chambers, hence backfire.
Was the timing belf changed recently, if so was it timed correctly.
Also a possibility it may haave jumped the timing if the belt is badly worn.
