Remote Central Locking 98 GPX

Would remote central locking have been an aftermarket thing or standard with the 98 GPXs? A "friend" flung my keys up against a wall after a few too many last week, the locking fob came apart completely, battery, screw and little green chip yoke!! We put it all back together, every which way, to no avail I know the battery is fine so it's definately a problem with the fob. I have to manually lock my baby now which is a nuisance but I'm more worried about the immobiliser which I'm told is only activated through the remote locking. I just called into the mitsubishi dealers in town and they told me they don't do replacement fobs for jap imports. I'm at a loss!

just buy an aftermarket remote locking kit, or use the opportunity to invest in an alarm/immobiliser system. As it stands, a standard FTO will have virtually no anti-theft protection, so if you want to keep your car to yourself, you really should get an alarm.

An alarm will activate your remote locking via it's remote control.

cheers colm, would you recommend buying one on e-bay or is there a particular brand i should try to get my hands on? are they tough to hook up?

It's usually a job best left to professionals. the quality of the installation is as important as the quality of the alarm itself.

nothing worse than an alarm going off for no reason, only locking one of the doors, immobilising the car when it shouldn't etc.

If you've got deep pockets, I'd go for a Clifford, I had one on my old FTO and I definately felt the car was less likely to disappear from the driveway. If you want to spend under €500, something like a Toad alarm will do the job, just make sure the alarm you get also has an immobiliser too, as the FTO doesn't have one.
