F**kng snow!

Postby CJ » Wed Mar 02, 2005 9:36 am

Drove into the company car park this morning, taking it handy on the snow, the car went into a skid when turning a corner and ended up in a pole, aggghhh I hate snow! new bumper and front wing for me by the looks of things, why do these things happen when you can least afford it? :x

Sorry for your trouble try and use it to improve the car and you wont feel so bad about it. Unfortunately low profiles arent great for snow and rain

Sorry to hear that CJ - You should be able to pick up an orig bumper and wing for reasonable money though.

A facelift would be nice - but mucho bucks too I would imagine - try pricing one though needless to say you'll also need the facelift lights - Steelroe put a facelift on his car and put polo lights in the bumper and it looks well - maybe he can offer you some advice here.

Who are you telling, Eagle F1s don't help things out either IMO.

I looked into this last year and it was kinda expensive, you're talking 800 quid for parts alone (bumper, lights etc) and thats doing it on the cheap.
I'd love to do it but I I'd find it difficult to justify the expense at this stage :?

It isnt cheap but buying an original bumber is dead money if you ever change it in the future. Have you tried the jap sites anything we got for the skyline from them was very cheap

Sorry to hear that... car parks are a disaster with bad weather, the Cork airport bus. park can be like a skating rink when it gets icy. To think you were probably just a few metres from parking the car.

Maybe Rory can fix you up with something...

There's a facelift bumper on Ebay at the moment for £699 buy-it-now, ouch!! No wonder there's such a premium on 97+ cars!

Cheers Ronan, while I have a decent guy that does my panel work, I'm always interested to hear of other good panel beaters around the place. I'll get a pic and send it onto you, I'm going to look at sourcing a bumper and wing myself, both will need to be fitted and sprayed.

So CJ, did last night give you a chance to further assess the damage? Better/worse then you expected?

What will you do...replace standard bumper or facelift??

As expected, new bumper and wing is all thats required as far as I can see.
I would really like to get a facelift on there, I just have to assess the finances first, you know how it is!

I've decided to bite the bullet and go facelift, makes sense given the circumstances. I'm going to order the bumper this afternoon, to save a few quid, I bought set of VW Lupo fogs on Ebay this morning for €65 (local VW garage wanted €66 each!), Lupo indicator pods on the other hand cost €26 each from the dealer which isn't too bad. All I need to do now is sort something out with custom brackets and I'm sorted. I may be able to source the brackets from the UK, watch this space.

CJ

Your car will increase in value with the facelift front in any case - can't see you loosing there - let us know re the cost involved though - facelift front & fogs/bodyshop etc. Its a good route to take if you have a tip on the front of the car.

Involves a different type of driving though. You can no longer pull into parking spots head first as easily as you could. You're always conscious of hearing that dreaded bang of the bumper hitting the curb. There are certain sections of the bumper that will attract being hit by stones or gravel so that might also have an impact on your paint job, especially as you keep your car so f**king clean all the time.
