We'll have a chat about it at Japfest and see if we can pull together even 5 or 6 FTOs.

Agreed, if there's enough interest I'd do both.

Lets stick it down as agenda item 1 for discussion @ the piano bar. There still seems to be a bit of interest, a showing of 4 or 5 cars is certainly possible.

Shame more wouldnt go, its just nice to have FTO-Ireland represented at as many shows as possible, gets people interested, I know if I went to a show and saw a good few cars all the same in a club and I hadnt seen many of them around I'd be interested in looking into them in more detail.

I wont be around to go down. Its my birthday the following day and am going to the UK for the weekend. Probably would have gone for the night if I wasn't already after arranging to go away.

Manifold and downpipe isn't going to make a significant difference to your 1/4 mile time - you did really well last year - you should give it a go in the (hopefully) dry.

The only way a DC2 teg will do 13's is if its forced induction - and then it shouldn't be in your class - the NA DC2's have always had similar times to my FTO (mid 14's at best and most closer to 15's) in Limerick for the past few years. The big advantage they have seems to be with gearing - while the GPX is still in 3rd at the end of the 1/4 mile - the Teg is well into the power band in 4th gear.

Its the same horsepower, close enough to the weight, and any drags I've seen online between the GPX and a DC2 are nearly always down to drivers skill its so tough to call. Still not bad for a 1.8L car though to be fair.

it is all drivers skill!!! this fella is UNREAL at launching..... wait till u see him.... he has some work done to the teg ( all himself and hes not a mechanic so it cant be too technical!)
if you look up videos on youtube of "dc2 launch" his old teg is there (white with red wheels) he can launch the car off the limiter... and his gear changes are faster than i thought physically possible.... hes a serious pilot!

"Launch the car off the limiter" - - either he's using slicks or he has the mother of all LSD's on there to be launching at anymore than 4K revs (on a 8K + redline) - in general you need to pick your revs very carefully when launching a FWD 200bhp+ car off the line. The trick is to just get slightly more wheelspin than wheel to road speed - in a Teg this is far more likely to be somewhere between 3.5 - 4K revs than at 8K+ revs.

"A serious pilot" isn't going to make up anymore than a couple of tenths on a 1/4 mile over a good pilot in a 250bhp or less car.
Take a look at the Limerick 1/4 mile you-tube video done by Seb (you're in it as well) - if you go to my run at 2.14 you will see (and hear) that for the 1st and 2nd gear all I am trying to do is manage power and traction to the road and in 3rd and 4th gear where I am simply sidesteping the clutch approaching the redline (I aim for the limiter to kick-in mid gear change in all gears) & then rev matching the upshift. If I launched at full revs (and I would have a better launch than a teg having RWD and an LSD) I would just sit there going nowhere. I did a 14.1sec 1/4 mile (0-60 timed at 5.1 secs) in a RWD 350Z with 280bhp - if an NA DC2 is getting into the 13's on the same track then I might as well not bother.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB-rDyR-79g

What I found works best for an FTO would also likely work for a Teg (both FWD, similar weight, similar power).
Sit on the line in the heel and toe position (right foot toe on accelerator/right foot heel on brake / clutch depressed with left foot). As launch approaches - Build the revs slightly and preload the drivetrain by slightly backing off on the clutch. On launch slide your foot off brake and slip clutch to feed-in power at optimum revs (for an FTO this is usually around 3.5K - 4K revs) - the front will go light as the weight transfers to the back of the (FWD) FTO so max revs at an early stage will just lead to loss of traction. Manage the power so your tyres are spinning just ahead of max traction - the change to 2nd gear will come quickly - clutch in as quickly as possible approaching 8K revs (you should hear the limiter kick in mid change) and watch for that "dead spot" (where the FTO threatens to drop out of mivec) at circa 5.5K revs between 2nd and 3rd gear. Rev matching the upshift will help here. The change from 2nd to 3rd gear is a clutch sidestep and full throttle (in an FTO) - and its all the way to the line in 3rd gear (you will be almost at max revs going over the line). Don't back off the throttle untill you are all the way over the line.

How does racing on the street prove anything about running a 1/4 mile drag (using professional timing equipment) in 13secs? Either show me his timing slips or get off the pot.
If he is as fast as you say I'm sure he'll have no bother in beating my (supercharged) Zed in the 1/4 mile in Limerick  - now thats a 13 sec car.

KS, you can only enter one or the other, you won't be able to drive back into the show area from the paddock.

Come on guys! - after todays washout we have to have a bit of a craic at a drier meet - esp for the drag. Colm and Tom you know you want another go in (hopefully) drier conditions.

What I propose is that we book in weather permitting and make a call on the Saturday as to whether we go or not and arrange for payment on the gate. What'd think?

Spoke to Peter today.
Agreed to do a "pay as we go system" - only pay me on the morning of the event if you decide to go.
We can keep an eye on the weather forecast - and do the 1/4 mile only if dry (present forecast is for dry weekend).
All I need is your reg numbers so I can send in an approx list of cars on Friday to Peter.
I'll gather the bucks and will give out sign-in forms on the Sunday morning while we queue at the gate and we'll all go in together (as per previous years & Japfest).

The Show and Shine is just €10 per car.
1/4 mile Drag is €50 - would love to do site battle again but need more cars - anyone?

Guys - can ye just express an interest at this stage and also PM me ye're reg numbers for a temp booking.
If anyone wants to do an overnight I can book the B&B at the normal venue in Clare (€35 pps).
