Bertie will be remembered for his role in the negotiations leading up to the Good Friday Agreementhas, his been the most successful politician in the Republic of Ireland since Eamon De Valera, his won three elections. He had alot to do with the Northern Ireland peace process. And this is the thank's he get's :x :smt018

as a non irish person can I just say this..

He may have brought the country to a completely new level of prosperity - and he may have played a big big part in ensuring peace & quiet..

but if a normal person had been acused of what he's been acused of - and delivered the information he's done.. I think that normal person would be behind bars..

..I've tried not to follow the case - but it's not like it's possible to avoid it..

he did not do it!!! none of it. He brought peace and prosperity to the island?!? me ar$e... Reynolds did that with Hume and Adams! Bertie just stepped in and took the reigns... same with the economy. I won't miss him...
I don't care who you are, you need to have some respect for your position and integrity in the job. I read today that Finlands Foreign Minister was sacked because he had been texting an erotic dancer. that behaviour is deemed unacceptable for a public official. respect and integrity required. Bertie has been caught out so bad its not even funny. He was taking back handers in all directions. Those days are gone. you cannot do that... a la charlie style, its ok to rob the place blind once you give the pensioners free heating? no no. thats not integrity. same with Bertie. Still saying he never ever handled dollars or his own finances. his wife did. he knows nothing about nothing. yet at the smae time he trying to take the tribunal to court so they cannot ask him certain questions about his private finances? yeah right. nothing to hide? pull the other one.
lets hope they get rid of that other big baboon, the picture of health that is mary harney... how she can stay in her job after he cancer test fiasco is absolutely stomach turning... no integrity, no morals. no shame.

Marie, You're on the wrong forum for talking up the
Government/Bertie -
A quick search under "government" will give you an idea of what many members on here have to say - http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... php?t=6120

I see Mugabe is gone now. Himself and Bertie must have the same spindoctors.

Zimbabwe's opposition movement is claiming its leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, has beaten Robert Mugabe in the country's presidential elections.

Good to see that a corrupt dictator at the centre of a lousy government is gone.

Good to see the back of Mugabe as well.

 Each opinon to there own guy's enough with the witch hunt.

As someone who is Secretary of a resendent's assiocation, I've had many deal's with many politiations, and on writing for advice and help to most of them based in Limerick on a regular occasion, I've noticed most of them wouldn't even respond to my letter's & E-mail's, but any time I've taked the time to write to Mr.Ahern!!! I've alway's gotten a responce along with the advice needed to apply to the correct council for fund's needed to solve the problem, Yes I don't like paying tax, yes I don't like paying v.r.t, yes I hate the NCT, but there are more important issue's out there then me.

Seriously though, I actually cannot believe how many people really do thinkg Bertie has done well - sure he's done well, he's done a great job of furthering his own personal life. In terms of this country he and his part royally f**ked up - in an era of what was unprecedented economic success they should have been planning for the future but instead we got outrageous house price inflation, terrible public services, crumbling health service, an economy based on nultinationals, non-tradeable public services and property development, rising unemployment, and semi-completed/over-budget infrastructure initiatives.

So when the credit crunch results in property development hitting a wall and a few multinationals subsequently leave a lot of people will suffer badly.

And all this could have been prevented by correct and proper planning during boom time, i.e. responsible planning regulations, decent oversight of mortgage lending, decent affordable housng provisions, more intelligent investment in public intitiatives, etc.

Give it 12 - 24 months and you'll see what I mean. The only unfotrunate thing could be that Fianna Fail may cleverly not be in government for the hard times - I know if I was making a strategic move I'd call and lose an election so that the opposition could pick up the pieces and cop the blame from the short-sighted Irish puplic. I actually hope Fiann Fail are in government when it all hits home -
