Driving on empty

Postby pergau » Wed May 12, 2004 5:37 pm

Can anyone help me please.

When I start to run low on fuel, the peterol light fades on and off for a bit and eventually stays on permanently. At this stage I always fill it up with peterol.

Is this normal? and how far can I go on when the light stays on?

Yes pergau its normal, you should get approx 40miles out of the tank when the empty light comes on permanently.

Aren't you running the risk of running silt and crap from the bottom of the tank into the engine? I always thought that was the case, maybe old wives tale? Anyone?

No not really, most modern petrol tanks have a dip built into them so as the crap from petrol pump tanks (yes really!) stays in one place. Even if you do get crap into the lines, the fuel filter will take it out.
