spark plug socket

Postby djabie » Sat Mar 15, 2008 3:04 pm

Hi all
Can someone tell me the right size of spark plug socket needed for the
v6 gpx mivec
I know its a special width because of the lip in the cylinder head just need to know the right size in inchs or mm
someone said it was 5/8 in then someone said 16mm.
Anyway if someone know i would be grateful for the info then i could buy one and take a grinder to the edge of it and make it fit
Cheers...

I couldn't get any of the standard sockets out of my toolbox onto it, but I discovered that the toolkit that comes with the car has the correct tool.

If you're lucky enough to still have it you'll find it in the boot in one of the compartments beside the spare wheel.

The standard tool is weak and if your plugs are tight it will just spin on them. Get a 3/8" drive 16mm PLug scoket and gring down the outside of it till it fits in the hole.

Make sure it is 3/8" drive, 1/2" is too big.

I must have a look and see what I used when I changed my plugs (is it any different for a GR? ) 'cause I don't have any special tools and I've changed the plugs loads of times - I'll have a look tomorrow and post a pic.

Yeh JD i think there is a difference in the gr and the gpx.
Halfway down the plug tube there is a lip on the gpx so a normal plug socket will not go down it
So i have to get one narrow enough (3/8 drive thanks to steelroe for the info). And long enough to reach the plug.
Oh the joys of owning a gpx mivec nothing is simple
