FTO as a practical car??

Alright all,

I've sold my FTO a couple of years ago so I forget...Can you fit a babyseat in an FTO!? I am currently cycling to work and I I have used the Honda S2000 about once in the last week. It's just a waste of 24,000 euros considering how little I use it.. And you can not disable the airbag so my little girl will never be able to come with me in it....with a new jeep I can not justify having 2 cars worth so much cash either...I'm battling with myself here!

The only other car I really want to to go back to my roots and get an FTO... I love them and I would get more use out of it then the S2000 and it would be less money tied up in a motor.

But, does a baby seat fit into one? I would not be using it as our every day car to take our baby round in but I would need to the odd time.

I have been looking at a few 1998 GPXs in the UK... reckon I would be able to get one on the road for about 9k euros,... would that be about right? There is nothing else in the ~10k bracket that floats my boat that I feel I could use every day.

I knew that you'd see sense someday.

I suspect that you could get a child seat into the back is you moved the passenger seat forward quite a bit. but it will be difficult to lift a kid in and out as you would have to stretch and if the kid is heavy that could be quite a job.

I say buy it and apologize to the wife if it doesn't work out.

only done this yesterday took a bit of gusto but yeah child seat fitted in nicely. i suppose it depends on the size of the chair and also how old the child is.

Well I have twins and have 2 child seats in the back and they fit in nicely, my twins are 5 years old now and still have plenty of room, so 1 seat for a baby should be fine.

Anyways... Glad to see you've got your sensible hat on...

FTOs are very pratical cars.. If you get a horse they can tow your horse box..if you want to go skiing - you can get a roof rack..

And indeed the previous owner of mine informed me that a childseat fits snugly in the backseat.. Alteratively you can alway get the roof rack for the childseat

i.ve seen 2 small children (baby's) in the back of a FTO so i guess those baby seats will work

cheers all! The FTO is that type of car that you just want to own again after you sell one. I love my S2000 but since my little bundle of joy has come along it's wasted... so, could well be gettnig into the FTO market again in a month or two... cheers again!

I've had a baby seat in the back of the FTO for the last 4 years even put in a flip down dvd player so she can watch Dora the explorer, not a bother, only thing is if you have kids make sure you've leather seats!! Milk and fabric = smelly car.

MY kid is 7 and has been travelling in my FTO since she was 6 months old in various types of child seats as she got older. There is no problem with room and access to the back seats for children. I can back up msmorrissey and agree that the flip down DVD player on the back of the headrest is an excellent babysitter.
PS. MY fto is now up for sale if it's a low milage gpx manual you're after.

Heh, I am in no particular hurry to sell mine.... If it goes it goes, let me know if this is a serious thought

Ah, I'm torn completely anyway. I would love an RX7 as well, but am a little afraid to buy one cause of the stories you hear on how they need to be maintained. I'm a torn man. There are so few motors I want, so the ones I do it's hard to know.

I've pretty much decided not to plough the 24k I would get for the S2000 into a second car cause we have a new jeep as a kinda family motor. So I am looking at around the ~10k bracket... so FTO, RX7, 300ZX, Skyline type thing is probable. Any other suggestions anyone??

If you thought the FTO was tight in the back, you ain't seen nothing til you've looked over your shoulder in an RX7! I really don't think you've any chance of fitting a baby seat in the back of an FD...

Not sure if you can turn off the airbag in equiped cars (mine doesn't have one)....
