Take it handy or put the boot down?

When someone puts it up to you on the road, do you back off or wind it up? I find that as time goes on, I rise to the challange a lot less often, thats what getting older does to you I suppose ;) The odd time, if I'm on a 'safe' road, I'll leave the 'racers and maxers for dust if they're on my bumper p!ssing me off (the FTO seems to attract this sort of behavior for some reason).

On a similar note, I was on the N3 near Blanch the other day, the FTO was handling like a dream after a long drive, as I was flooring it around the roundabout, there was a cleanly modified looking Lancer in front of me, he moved over and wound down the window, then I reaslised why he changed lanes - I dropped a cog and MIVEC'ed past him, the look on his face was classic, the MIVEC twinned with the ITG roar and catless Mongoose howl had him smiling from ear to ear :) He waved as he exited the motorway at the next sliproad, its good to get a bit of gratitude from other non-FTO owning petrolheads from time to time 8)

Sounds like a good one for a poll!

Depends pretty much on the mood for me, but I try to behave myself a bit, don't always manage though! I have to say I do get a lot of satisfaction out of someone flooring it in front of me and not managing to pull away at all! :D Going up the Kinsale road towards the airport is a classic spot for that kinda stuff.

My commute to work involves a ~9km stretch of dual carriageway. And at times the FTO combined with a long stretch of road attracts some real fools. Noteable cases were an early 90's opel astra, and a mitsi pajero/shogun....I'm mean come on....worthy contendenders only please.
Dropped into 3rd and left them sitting in my dust 8) What were they thinking
More worthy contenders included the arch rival (hairy chest and meadallion type) Celica and a skyline (which obviously was not one of the turbo versions) bring it on I say!

I find there are a lot of fools on the road, all who seem to want a piece of you. I smoked more BM's than i ever though possible. (Of course only on a good road  )

The fto certainly did attract the idiots - I used to find that with most of these idiots even if you did smoke them they were fool enough to keep pushing it and either hit stupid and really dangerous speeds or drive back up your ass at the next opportunity. Also I found that to really show the best of the FTO you had to push the revs and get the speed up as that's where it really shines (i.e. pulling away from cars at 70/80mph plus). I never really had the bottle for that kind of driving so I learnt to ignore these idiots.

However I do plan on getting the golf remapped and fitting a different wastegate controller to push torque low down on the rev range so that there is bags of low down power 9at expense of top-end) - so when idiots drive up my ass at normal everyday driving speeds (30/40) I can floor it, get the full value of 230lb/ft torque and leave them for dead - hoping they might then think the car is much faster than it is and back off ;)

The FTO seems to attract boy races alright when ever i am behind a civic or some boy racer with his bean can exhaust i can see them checking their rear view dying to pull away overtaking in slow traffik for no reason i just let them get on with it, maybe they are just embaressed about the cool lines of FTO's 8)
