Help: Bringing FTO to Canada

Postby calgaryfto » Sun Mar 29, 2009 3:43 pm

Hi Guys,

I moved to Canada from the UK and am looking to bring an FTO over.

The import requirements are strict but I think manageable.

I need help check two things:

1. Do the standard head-lamps carry the DOT or E stamp?
---> If someone could post a picture of their standard head-lamps that will show any stamping / embossing or serial number card that would be awesome!

2. The glass must carry the AS1 logo throughout. Again pictures showing this would be awesome.

Currently there are no legally registered FTOs in Canada so no-one to ask on this continent.

Thanks!

Robert

I'm pretty sure it's a "no" on both questions :(

Thanks for the reply. Any-one willing to confirm this?

If anyone has replaced their glass or added third party lamps can you let me know if they meet the criteria above?

Budget has just doubled :)

Doesn't the AS1 logo mean the windows have to be laminated. you're saying "throughout", does that mean side windows need to be laminated too?

I believe the AS1 identifies the optical quality of the glass.

I did more research:

The glass will either be AS1 or AS2

AS2 is tempered designed not to shatter.

AS1 is designed laminated designed to shatter.

Most JDM is AS1. I just need to verify the glass has the logos etched.

Thanks for your replies Colm

I have some examples of the markings from other cars that would pass inspection here:

I have a spare headlamp, but don't see any DOT or E markings on it.

The small windows on the FTO have AS2 on them, no markings on the other glass that I could find.

It'll certainly be unique over in Canada I reckon!

Thanks for that. I guess halfway there! Any pictures would be awesome. Is your glass OEM or AM?

Any chances the stamp is on the inside black plastic of the light or somewhere on the back?

I'll try to get a pic of the side window in a bit... the headlamp I actually have spare so had it in my hand looking at all sides. No DOT or E mark unfortunately.

It's standard OEM glass... the only markings on any of the windows was the rear left side window, so I can only assume it applies for all standard oem windows.

Kevin,

Thank you very much for that!

I am a little bit confused on the light, I am going to do some research and try to establish if the serial number etc... are hidden inside the assembly.

Thanks Again!
