Brake pads/ caliper removal, help please?

Postby Mustang » Mon Nov 26, 2007 6:31 pm

A while back I replaced the retaining clips on the divers side brakes, but ran into a problem in doing so. I think it' now time to replace the pads all round, so potentially going to run into the same issue.

The problem was with the lower bolt on the caliper. As illustrated below, with the ratchet attached.

I can loosen it to the point where it seems like it should just come out but it wont. It takes a lot of effort to keep turning it, it's like it's come to the end of the thread but as if it's clamped in rubber, but it doesn't come out any further. At this stage the caliper is loose and the bolt is sticking out but just can't seem to remove either.
Am I missing something here?

Mustang, get a screwdriver and hammer and give the bolt a few smacks inwards towards the engine, that might dislodge it. Have you tired force when its got to the point that the bold should be ready to come out?

Work it in & out repeatedly - and give it a few smacks like CJ suggests..also try covering the lot in WD40.. It's prolly just some gunk keeping it in place.

I had the same problem when changing my front pads.*This might be a bit extreme but*I just loosened top bolt and removed it and loosened the bottom bolt as much as i could and pulled of the caliper.Leaving the bottom bolt in place in the bracket then took the caliper bracket off held in by 2 bolts at the back of the disc.Brought it to my local blacksmith he used a torch removed the bolt. The thread was untouched i got new bolts of camskill fitted perfect no problem since.
