BIG BRAKE CONVERSION

Postby steelroe » Mon Mar 16, 2009 2:27 pm

I have been doing research into developing a brake conversion kit, fronts for the moment and possibly rears aswell (I know the handbrake is a prob but was thinking of fitting a hydraulic one, plenty room under the centre console I would think. I have a guy that can make the brakckets.

I was wondering if you guys could post up as much info as possible regarding previous kits that have been developed.

Dans kit looks good but prob unly suit 18" wheel. I am looking into kit for 17"

i.e Calipers used. Disk Diameter. etc.

All info appreciated.

Thefreak on ftooc did a set of AP Racing calipers, and also did a set of Wilwood calipers which I've had on until a few days ago. Just the front 2 calipers.

Calipers are Wilwood Dynalite, discs are 298mm Evo 4 discs, all details should be here on ftooc

AP racing kit he also did is here on ftooc - 300mm discs, AP 4 pot calipers.

Not sure why the links aren't working for you guys, they work fine for me. Go onto Ftooc and search for 'Wilwood' in the group buy forum, and you'll get 2 results back - the Wilwood group buy and the AP Racing group buy.

Hi, Just for info:
The history of the big brake kits for the FTO in the UK started back with FTOOC member ToneB who had some Brembo four pots with 318mm discs made up (I had some from him in 2003).....
Then FTOOC member TheFreak had some very similar Brembo kits made, Stu (thefreak) then had some AP Racing kits made up, there was a smaller four pot set with single part 300mm discs, then some four pot AP Racing 5000+ Pro callipers with 330mm two part disks (mine <<) and then he had some six pot AP callipers with the same 330mm two part discs made up. All of the callipers were stock AP ones that were radial mount, he had brackets made and sourced discs and alloy bells to complete the kit. He has since gone on to put together a Wilwood four pot kit with a 300mm (approx) disc.
There are a couple of HI-Spec kits about where someone has put together a kit in a similar way, stock radial mount Hi-Spec calliper and disk and had a bracket made to suit the FTO.
This only leaves the KAD kit which is a similar story where parts have been bought together to make a FTO fitment but this time by the manufacturer themselves (more bling than brake when compared to others).
There are a couple of other brake kits about but be aware of any that require modification to track or alteration to suspension / wheels to fit.

Yup, paid up member. I know you need to be a member to get access to the group buy forum but don't know if just being a forum member would do.
