central locking in drivers door!!

Postby paul2508 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 6:07 pm

ok .... i recently got the clifford alarm taken out of the fto im breaking , today the bloke came out to my job to fit it into my car. everything seemed fine until he told me that the drivers door wont lock when you turn on the alarm, i was confused , as the drivers door on the other fto it was on locked when you turned it on. he told me there was no motor for the drivers door , only the passengers door works. he said it was common problem with these cars as he came across a few before with the same problem. i told him the last car worked and he told me maybe something was done to the door . anyone ever hear of this.
maybe the central locking problem with fto's has something to do with this. everything else works with the alarm. just the drivers door not locking

must say tho, he only charged 100 euro for takin out alarm and putting it into the my car. not bad at all IMO.
...Me fail english?..Thats unpossible.....

€100 is cheap but if the driver's door isn't working then its a job not done properly in my opinion. Is he going to try to sort the driver's door out too?

he said there is no motor in the drivers door to work the central locking. he told me to take out the one off the car i took the alarm off.probably explains why my car never had an alarm in it

just thought i'd let you know i had a problem with my door, the alarm would not operate the centrasl locking on the drivers door, this is because the motor in the mechanism only turns a few turns to lock and unlock the door, resulting in the brushes etc getting dirty and slowly the motor stops working, i tried another mechanism before realising this. I removed the whole mechanism and undid the motor cover screws and gently remove the cover(carefully as the spring can shoot out) then carefully prised the cog out immediately next to the motor spindle, then applied 12v via a power probe to the motor (via the plug terminals)and let it spin freely for a minute or so, reverse the polarity and let it run freely again, reassemble and it works great, hope this helps

sorted mate...by itself LOL!! moved the lock by hand a bit vigourously and after few minutes doing that the lock started to respond to the central locking by using the fob.

That might be just temporary . Take down the door card , it's easy enought to get to the motor or install one of them
