Postby kenkeo » Fri Aug 29, 2008 4:15 pm

hey lads got an email from someone from the UK who spotted my car on carzone. he said he was interested and said he would send me a bank draft cheque and when the cheque clears he would organise a shipping company to collect the car.i just gave him my addressmand i recieved a cheque today for 11,000 sterling not the 8000 euro i origanally was hoping to get. bank said it will take 21 days to clear but i might just rip it up seems too good to be true. any 1 heard of something like this?

Complete scam mate. Take your own advice and steer well clear. Almost everyone who puts a car up on carzone gets emails like this!

He'll be back on to you to tell you he sent a cheque for too much and can you refund him the 3K extra he paid. Then your bank will ring you and tell you his cheque bounced, an age old method!

yeah scam.. lodge his cheque anyway, it might get that account blacklisted at bank of ireland or AIB when it bounces...

I guess its ok to do this in UK, but in the USA if you write a cheque and you knowingly don't have the money to cover it, its a serious offence. jailtime like.

Yip - keep him hanging in there and let him think he's onto a good thing. Tell him the money has cleared and start to negotiate his refund.
If you could get him to waste a pile of money on phone calls to you then all the better.
Tell him the only way you can refund his money is via a cheque that you will post on to him - that way you'll get a lead on an address you can pass onto the relevant authorities.
