Bit of a battle!

Postby RussMan » Mon Apr 02, 2007 3:22 pm

Curious if anyone has had any battles off the lights recently... seem to be having them more and more frequently.... just short bursts and here are the results.
These are all imaginary stories i've made up!

1) Merc - SL600 - 97DReg - Absolutely nailed me after the first 2 seconds of acceleration. Driven by Chuck Norris's body double.

2) RX8 Ex - FTO beat it hands down on both a mid-range blast and off the lights. Driver of Rex spun the rears badly which left the FTO up in front without a problem.

3) BMW 535D - Very impressed with this car. Has a huge amount of torque. Met one at the lights this morning and he slammed the foot down off the lights. Neck n neck up to 45 mph.
I really feel that these 535's may be too much power in the wrong hands and wrong chassis. The driver was obviously in a mad rush as he rushed through the traffic, plenty of body roll.

Anyone have any interesting encounters that made them feel their FTO was a tad slow...

TegR - GPX
Seemed fairly even - but as soon as I stuck it in 2nd he was lost.. Don't know if he missed the shift or what..

Hyundai Coupe (FX) - GPX
No Contest - yer man was revving and looking over - left him standing..

Impreza WRX - GPX
I was leading for about 2secs - then he tore past and let out a mighty "PIISHUOW" as he changed gear.. At the next light his girlfriend smiled and waved over at me - I could tell he wasn't impressed..

I had a laugh, so did she :-D

GPX vs Celica (Dont know what type but 2.0litre)
We were neck and neck for about 0.2 of a second, then the GPX left it for dead, the higher revs and the later gear change meant I just kept pulling away. Easy!
By the way my mate driving the Celica is about 23 stone and his missus in the passenger seat was a damn site fatter than she thinks so I suppose I had a slight advantage. About 20 stone advantage!

Get some pictures up on the "Other Cars" forum Viper - I'd like to see the new machine.

Just before I sold my FTO I had a brand new UK reg SLK 55 AMG race me down my own stretch of private road and I did rather well. Keeping up wasn't an issue and I'm pretty sure he was more surprised than me to see the FTO go past.

It tends to be exec cars rather than modified cars - rarely if ever do I get modded cars try it on - most of them already know what an FTO or 350Z can do so they're quite content to drive behind and not bother to try overtake - when you get to 200bhp + on Irish roads it stops being about the car and starts to become about the stupidity of the driver - if I drove my Zed to the limit on a regular basis I'd either be dead or in jail.

I tend to find a slightly different pattern - the only people who seem to act the ar$e (i.e. try to race in stupid situations or drive up your ar$e when you clearly can't go any faster, etc) are drivers of BMW's (mostly low powered 3 series), drivers of non-descript low powered "sports cars" (e.g. hyundai coupe, toyota celica) or little tinker boy racers in all manner of different cars (these are the ones I hate the most)!!!!.

- when you get to 200bhp + on Irish roads it stops being about the car and starts to become about the stupidity of the driver - if I drove my Zed to the limit on a regular basis I'd either be dead or in jail.

Never a truer word spoken and definitely applies to me - 50% of my driving is pretty sedate almost grandad like, 40% is brisk but not in anyway agressive (probably not even considered fast ) and 10% is fast (but only on quiet roads and even that wouldn't be close to the limits of the car).

And to show my juvenile side..... I've had one or two minor events in the TT - usual array of knob 320ci drivers who haven't figured out that 260bhp + 4wd = fast 0-120kmh. But the funiest was the astra driver this morning, blacked out windows, exhaust, etc. driving right up my ar$e through a house estate near sandyford hall - I stayed at 30kmh & let him stay there until we hit the M50 roundabout (heading towards leopardstown) where it becomes 2 lanes and as soon as he pulled into the outer lane to overtake I buried the accelerator....... suffice to say he didn't drive that close to my bumper once he'd caught up on brewery road -

Very rarely get anyone trying to race at lights - but some of the modded civics and the like tend to try it on.

Had to pull in to the left lane of the M1 at the weekend though. Was doing 140kph when an EVO IV went from tiny dot in the mirror to very large black beast at my bumper. Wasn't about to test myself or the car by racing though.

The car that I find more often than not at my bumber is the Avensis - God knows what the drivers are thinking........them, and at the opposite scale - the Micra, are the two cars I least like being in front of or behind......

Aye, I slowed right up once I hit Brewery road - the lazy garda like that as a speed check area.... though it only takes a few seconds to put those dozy boy racers in their place & if they want to keep going to silly speeds I always pull over and let them on by...

Aye, work is mad - a normal day sees me in the office at 7:30am and home around 7pm - madness - not sure how much more I'll be able to endure to be honest....

Has the TT been chipped?

Aye - guy called Joe Power, runs a company called ChippedIRE - maps come from the UK company ChippedUK. Great guy, very knowledgeable - I think his background is in electronics and vehicle diagnostics. Explained everything while I was down there, showed me everything at each stage of the procedure. It's a different car now

Anytime - I'll be home this evening - I just have to go down to lambs cross to collect the broken spring so I can send it down to the dealer along with my invoice ;)

The car I see time after time with the driver trying to throw his weight about is an Audi, the likes of the A4 and A6. Haven't noticed many beemers or mercs driving like that for a good while.
