Getting into reverse problem - Again!

Postby cullen5998 » Sat Sep 25, 2010 8:19 pm

Hi all, im still having problems getting into reverse in my GPX manual

I've used the search function and read the other posts about it but im still no clearer.

I know theres a few others that have the same problem but prob not as bad as mine. Did anyone ever get it checked out? I have been to a mechanic and he said it may be a gear sync problem and not the gearbox cabling bracket or the selector problems which i think is the problem.

Im getting frustrated by it and just want it fixed really, as other than that the car is driving well.

Im in Limerick, anyone know of a decent garage where i could get a second opinion as my usual mechanic is in Kilkenny but due to working weekends and college during the week dont seem to get the chance to leave it in.

How did you get that fixed? What did you need and how much?

Thats a lot of euros! Be cheaper get the box replaced? I was quoted 200 to change it. Clutch is perfect so no need for that.

normally its cheaper to swap the box out for a 2nd hand unit than recondition one. Either way you have to remove it and replace it, but if you are rebuilding one It will take 2-3 hrs to strip and rebuild +parts you have to balance that up against the cost of a 2nd hand box.
