Also hard to believe you can get a fully reconditioned gearbox for €700.
Yep it's manual. I thought it was awful crunchy alright. He said there wasn't a drop of oil in the gearbox she sounds awful round when you start her and gets really noisy as you progress through the gears. I'm gonna get a second opinion definately, but as I said the guy that checked it is sound as a bellManual or tiptronic box? I'm assuming its the former. Whats the problem, by the way - can't grab gears, noise from transmission? What lead up to the problem?
Yeah supply and fitting, if he can get his hands on a gearbox. I think I'm gona go for the recondition based on your advice and what I've been hearing!!Emma that's unfortunate, it certainly did seem like a gearbox issue when I drove it. It's unfortunate and expensive, however it could be worse -it could be the engine! Does that €700-€800 include supply and fitting?

i dont know cj, there was never any suggestion of doing that but i'll find out for ya, watch this space!!Out of interest, did he fill up the box with oil and drive it afterwards? I appreciate its probably beyond repair but I would be interested to know if filling up went some way towards alleviating the problem?

i remember that actually, and trust me, i am suitably chastened!! an expensive frickin lesson learned car's parked up, i'm usin fred again, bleedin punto! ha, the suspension is lovely though, i had forgotten what it was like not to have my teeth rattling on the country roadsAhem! I suggested doing that Now that you know there's no oil there, driving around with none is a bad idea, especially if you don't have a definite plan of action/timeline for when the repairs will be carried out.
Are you planning to have that box reconditioned, if so you'd want to get some oil in there asap.
