Seatbelt danger

Postby pergau » Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:07 pm

This happened to me before but I assumed that it was a chance in a million . However it happened to me today as I was driving.

My seatbelt had got caught in the adjusting arm for the back of the driver's seat and when I twisted in the seat this morning, the tension on the belt pulled up the arm and the back of the seat fell down. Luckily, I was holding on to the steering wheel tightly and managed to hold on but the car wobbled a bit until I got my bearings.
It could have been nasty.

Has this happened to anyone before?

I presume that the plastic sleeve on the end of the belt is intended to stop this from happening but it's got me twice now.

Its not happened to me but its something I've been wary of in the past. If you use the seat belt guides its much less likely to occur, that said, I know a lot of us don't use them (myself included!).

The seatbelt guides annoy me but I will have to think about using them now.

Think I'd rather run the risk than drive a Golf to be honest ;)

LOL!..yeah you're right ... me too...

Although I did do 110mph in it last night on the "PRIVATE STRETCH OF ROAD WITH A TOLL JUST OUTSIDE DROGHEDA" ;-) ... fairly impressive for a 1.4l (downhill!!)

I have heard this happen several times to FTO drivers - a search (esp UK forum) will show how often this has happened.

noticed this a couple of times....

What actually happened to me is that the belt is not tense. It feels tense but its caught on the seat down near your right pocket. Useless in a collision. I check its tense now each time I put it on. just to be sure.

this has actually happened a couple of times on my drive to work. I've since gotten used to checking where the belt runs down the side of the seat before taking off..

I know - I can't either..Also my belt has safed my life on more than one occasion so I never ever drive without ... Ok well I might reverse her out of the drive to give her a wash or something...

You know those ads with people cracking their mates skulls open and stuff (from flying about in the car cause of the lack of wearing seatbelts) how come nobody ever did a song called "Last night a seatbelt saved my life"? (Melody: Last Night a DJ Saved my life) ..that'd be much better than that "body to body" Mumba Jumba...

Happened to me lots of times, if you just get used to using the belt guide it doesnt hapeen. Can you imagine if you could get it a camera to capture it happening it would be hilarious. A good few posing moments have turned into instant panic over the years !!!!!
Look Mammy there is nobody driving that car!!!
