vibration in steering wheel when i accelerate

I hit a pothole the other night and since that my car vibrates when i accelerate, but the is fine when i let off the pedal
At first i thought it was a buckled wheel but changed them and its still the same, the guy that changed they wheels said the tracking is fine too
I abviously broke somthing, any1 got any clues as to what it might be?

Did he check the trackin, Measure the distance between the wheel and wing on both sides, If there is a noticable diff you have bent something.
Were the wheel rebalanced

Yeah i got 2 new tyres on the front and he balanced them, and said tracking is fine.
best bet is to bring it to some1 to have a look i reckon

I reckon you have a bucked wheel. Did you cahnge the wheel that hit the hole or just the tyre. Maybe put on the spare and see what happens.

Could have bent a half shaft or damaged a CV joint either.
How bad a hit was it?

ye might be its deff not a buckled wheel because i change the front wheels twice with a different set, it was bad enough hit bit i didnt tink that much of it at the time

If it's a half shaft then you should be able to clock it on a ramp. CV joint would be noisy as well.
Could be a disc either - do you get wobble under braking or only accel?

yeah it just wobbles alot when i accel but when i take my foot off the pedal it rolls with no wobble even at say 100kms
Some1 reckons it mite be the coilovers that need adjusting

Disk should only vibrate when tou press pedal if it is warped. Cant see why hitting a pothole would damage disk.

stevec could be right here. Sounds like a drive shaft, given the fact the vibration is less when accel if left off. I the shaft is bent the faster it spins the more vibration you would get.

so will it be a cv joint or a half shaft you think il need? or does it come as one piece

Jack the car up as high as possible Both wheels off the ground. Support it with axle stands. Need two people now. Start the car put it in 1st. One guy rev the car and the other get under. You should notice a wobble in the shaft if it is bent. You may well notice something elser while you are under there.

Make sure it is supported well

If you do this, clamp something pointy to a fixed point on the car - and have it near the drive shaft. As its rotating (doesnt have to be fast) move it closer until it touches. This will tell you if the shaft is bent - it'll only hit on one side.
Take the wheels off first so to eliminate them being off balance.

Don't see how a pothole could cause this unless it was a really bad hit though.

looks like the shaft is bend alright, my mate looked at it

Cant tie it down to an event but only remember noticing it after a rather spirited 50mph hand-brake turn with loads of power on I think I almost fried the cluch at the same time!! :oops: I was very young at the time :twisted: the outcome was as you said... vibration under acceleration!
