Wisdom teeth

Postby optical illusion » Wed Sep 17, 2008 11:52 am

Has anyone ever had them extracted? I have to get them out Nov 7th, and I have to take a week off work! I'm totally freaking out, I know I'm going to be hysterical, never been in hospital or put to sleep before...

*worries*

Not had that done personally, but the girl I live with had recently. The dentist said not to take any heed of any horror stories you might hear before hand, its rare enough, but people only hear about the bad cases. She had heard good and bad stories, but was fairly relaxed overall, and it went grand. When she came home after you'd hardly tell she had surgery at all, and she was surprised how easy it was. Some people do feel a bit drained after, and hence you might be advised to take a week off. She had a week off but said she could've gone back earlier.
Its very routine now, you'll be fine! :)

Yup, they seem to be on the ball with it these days, and I'm sure you'll get pain killers before you leave the hospital for any uncomfort you might have so you should be fine!

I had a wisdom tooth out and was back in action the next day, if you have to get 2 or more out then you may need more time off - depends on the individual case I guess....

Yep - I think it's a case of the more the merrier. I had one out and was back to work an hour after it.

I think if you're up to 2, 3, 4 it is probably a good bit more uncomfortable, but probably not super painful.

I think it will sound as if you are talking with a mouthful of marbles for a day or so afterwards though

I had one out under sedation in the dentist chair - had it out on a saturday but I probably could have worked the next day.

There's no real long term recovery from one but it can be very painful - make sure you get some really good pain killers as I woke in ferocious pain after the sedation wore off.
