2004/2005 Subaru Legacy Estate

Postby adrian » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:34 pm

Hey all,

Anyone with any experience with these? I think I have sold the Hilux so am in the market for a new family car. I was pretty sold on a 2004/2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD but I so like the look of the legacy.

This is the shape of the one I like:

but I would preferably like the Turbo Version:

Any experience on the legacy welcome....

That is a lovely looking machine - a guy in my estate is on his 2nd one (previous was was an older generation).. They are well able to move, but they don't attract a huge amount of attention from people not in the know.

Apparently they're pretty bulletproof too..

They look nice enough, and a good stealth car in turbo form. I expect that as with all JDM turbos they are mapped to run on high octane fuel. Your choices then are leave it as is and drive like a girl :r - if so no point in buying a turbo charged beast in the first place. Two, get it remapped to run on 95 octane or whatever. I'm no expert but I understand that this is not as simple or as cheap as you might expect -research needed.

The Police have a red one as an unmarked car on the northside. and it is fairly nippy.

Good point. Where in Ireland do this remapping and roughly what does it cost to get it done??

Joe at ChippedIRE - he's based in Straffen. Nice guy and very thorough -

Not sure exactly what makes/models he covers.

I couldn't advise you on price Adrian. A friend of mine bought a Jap import impreza STI. He was told he'd need a piggy back ECU and to have it mapped, I think he was looking at ~€1k. You'd need to do the research yourself and find out for definite.
