It means the gas is escaping somewhere along the line instead of all just coming out the pipe at the end. Either you've got a hole in the exhaust or it's leaking at one of the joints.

Take a listen again, you'll pick it out handy enough.

Unless you can get one off a breakers in good nick (mid section is a known 'weak point') you're better off getting an aftermarket I think. Mitsi's price is likely to be somewhere along the lines of limbs or first born!

Depending how bad it is you may be able to get it repaired, got a hole in mine done which has held for ages.

For aftermarket ones, from what I've read the Mongoose is the closest to the stock in terms of noise levels. Not sure what they're going for, pm ricerocketuk if you want to check, he supplies them.

If you keep the Cat and buy a Cat back system then you'll have no problems with regard to NCT. You'll also enjoy your FTO so much more with an aftermarket system such as a Blueflame or Mongoose etc.
As per Kev - Ricerocket is a good option - as are Camskill - you really won't go wrong with something like a blueflame - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s11p460

or the Quad if you're feeling flush - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b0s11p5730

Yip - course its easy to just bolt in or out the Cat/Decat pipe regardless.

I'm a particular fan of the quad systems on the FTO -

A few of the guys on here are running quads at the moment.

Check out Colms blueflame Quad in this video at 1 min 17secs for an example of sound - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hB8beB4drM

A catalytic converter on the FTO sits (bolted on) between the downpipe and the centre section of the exhaust - it can be replaced with a decat pipe (better sound & performance) quite easily by just bolting it on or off.

Heres a pic of a decat pipe - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s11p191

You would need to have the Cat in to pass emissions on the NCT but its a few minutes of a job (presuming you have access to a lift/pit).

Just do a search under "decat" to understand more.

the end of this system simply bolts onto the end of the cat, which is bolted on the other end to the downpipes that come from the engine.
