How low do you go?

Postby Marie » Thu Jun 11, 2009 3:58 pm

I've noticed my Petrol light seam's to come on alot more now adays, weather it's the rising price in fuel or just the fact we are all on crap incomes now and don't top up the tank as much as we used to?

But I'm wondering how low do you go? When does the panick kick in to refil the tank? :smt030

You don't REALLY need to worry about the light until it comes on constantly - it will go on and off many times before this happens.

My needle goes way below the actual empty mark. I would estimate that there is 8-10 litres of fuel below the empty line on mine.

Does the last digit not read 8 on the dial?
I generally fill up somewhere between there and before the light comes on.

You should have about 40-50km left ('normal' driving) once the light comes on constant, why not stick a jerry can of petrol in the boot and find out yourself ;)

I was caught out in the GPX once - needle at empty, no indicator light, car cut out at the side of the road. Strange thing is the light came on subsequently....

Only problem letting it go so low is that when you do get to the pumps and put in €20 it barely knocks it up over the empty line again :smt004

I've never let the light come on, however after I fitted my dials I found a little bulb.
I think it might be for the fuel light... I really should sort it out

When I hit 1/4 tank I'm thinking ahead to refill, looking for a station that has a reasonable price. By 1/8 I'll fill up soon.

nope not rich!!! but petrol prices in dungarvan are some of the lowest in the country!! really the only time i let it below half is on long drives (up and down to mayo) so i can see what kinda mpg i get! :D at the mo ive 1/8th of tank left and done 635kms! 8) ill prob fill it later tho!! And i did say i try to keep it above 1/2! it does see the 1/4 mark at times!
