Tyres...what size?

Postby Dean » Mon Nov 28, 2005 5:29 pm

Hi All,

Anyone know the size of the tyres on the standard 16inch FTO alloys?
I need a new set for the front pronto and I need really good winter tyres. I keep hitting slippery patches and the tyres are getting low thread.

Also any recommendations on cheap tyre places? Internet or Limerick area?

Internet - www.eiretyres.com

Otherwise - try calling Mid-West tyres (Dock rd), Parkway tyres (Parkway roundabout) or Daly Tyres (Eastway Business Park) - get a number of quotes for the above size - don't accept any 1st quote - tell them you can get them cheaper elsewhere and watch the price drop - otherwise get them to include alignment etc.

I found Bridgestone Potenza RE720's to be an excellent (& good value) winter tyre - had them in 205/50 R 16's on my last FTO.
Or if you can find Goodyear Eagle F1's (GSD3) for similar money then all the better.

Dean,
I rang around a few places when I was getting the Pirellis for the rear of the car. Mid-west tyres (In Limerick) offered by far and away the dearest quote, a full €50 per tyre more

Well they would - they don't stock Pirelli's - they tend to push Bridgestone's and Federals.

They gave me a very good quote recently for S03's or RE050's.
They should also be very competitive for Bridgestone RE720's.

Tyre prices will vary widely from brand to brand across the outlets - never accept a 1st quote unless its really good.
