Removing an stereo from the FTO..help...

Postby adrian » Tue Feb 17, 2004 2:58 pm

Hi,

I am trying to remove my stereo (panasonic front loading head unit) as I am selling the FTO tomorrow I hope but I am not get it out of there. I have another one to put in in it's place but wanna keep the good Panasonic MP3 one I have. When I remove the front panel (security removable panel with the buttons, display etc) the unit itself will not move/budge. I can not see anywhere where there would be clips or anything holding it in.

Any suggestions??

Have you tried a sledge hammer??

Just joking :D

AFAIK you have to take out the lower part of the centre console as the head unit sits into a braket that is screwed into a frame under the centre console.

Have a look at http://www.funky-fto.co.uk/wiring_stereo.html

You will probably need a DIN tool to remove the unit, this will be the case id there is a small hole in each corner where the tool is inserted. If not, then remove the centre console and see if you can get your hand at the back of the stereo. Its possible that the stereo is held in place by a bolt and screw, the bolt is located in the middle of the stereo.

If you can't get a DIN tool, you can make one from a coat hanger, all the tool does is to lever back a hook so if you insert it and apply a little pressure away from the stereo , the unit should come out.
